The HYLA Car Seat Safety Campaign Committee is dedicated to educating the public on the importance of properly installed car safety seats by working one-on-one with families and distributing essential information on transporting children safely. It is estimated that up to 90% of child safety seats are not properly fitted in passenger vehicles and that motor vehicle accidents are a leading cause of death among children in our country.  The HYLA Car Seat Safety Campaign Committee is working to save children’s lives one car seat at a time. 

 The HYLA Car Seat Safety Campaign Committee is hosting the first Child Safety Seat Checkup Event on Saturday, October 27^th, 2007 at the Babies “R” Us location at Hwy 290/Hollister Road located at 5770 Hollister Street, Houston, Texas. The event will begin at 10:00 a.m. at the Babies ‘R Us location and the technicians will serve parents on a first come, first serve basis. The HYLA Car Seat Safety Campaign Committee is partnering with Babies “R” Us and SafeKids Greater Houston to provide certified technicians, along with a team of volunteers, to inspect and offer advice about child safety seats to ensure car seats are properly installed and not defective. On the day of the event, Babies “R” Us will have speakers to talk about important safety issues involving children, including Halloween safety issues, and fun games for children and parents to provide entertainment while waiting on the car seat inspection. The HYLA Car Seat Safety Campaign Committee is planning on hosting two other safety seat events in 2008. This event is generously sponsored in part by a grant from the Texas Young Lawyers Association. A special thanks to the businesses who have generously contributed to this event. The HYLA Car Seat Safety Campaign Committee is designing educational brochures explaining the proper use of child safety seats and applicable law. The brochures will be translated into several languages and distributed to naturalized citizens, parents, and grandparents in the Houston area to educate caregivers on the importance of properly installed car seats.

To accomplish the HYLA Car Seat Safety Campaign Committee’s goals, the committee needs dedicated members to help coordinate the Child Safety Seat Checkup Events, contact sponsors, contact media, volunteer at the events, and draft informational materials. If you are interested in joining our committee, please contact the committee co-chairs.
