Developing Young Lawyers Today for Leadership Tomorrow
The mission of HYLA's 2018–2019 Leadership Academy (the "Academy") is to prepare young attorneys for leadership roles in HYLA and other organizations through a service-oriented leadership training program.
During the tenure of the Academy, members will have the chance to practice and develop their leadership skills while working together to develop and execute a service project designed to leave a lasting impact on both the Academy members and the community.
Applicants are selected based on several criteria including (1) leadership skills, abilities, and potential; (2) achievements and accomplishments; and (3) community and bar involvement. Each person invited to become a member of the Academy will be required to pay an entry fee of $200, which will cover the cost of the luncheons and various other programs.
The Academy begins with a mandatory retreat focusing on team building and leadership skills on Saturday, November 17, 2018, from 8:45 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
The Academy then meets monthly to learn from Houston community leaders and work on the class fundraising effort. The monthly meetings are also mandatory and will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on the following Thursdays: December 13, 2018; January 10, 2019; February 7, 2019; March 7, 2019, and April 11, 2019. Additional evening and special events may be scheduled in coordination with the class’ availability.
Applications for the 2018–2019 Leadership Academy are due on Friday, November 2, 2018. (Application below)
